Children, aged 12 to 18, who recently arrived in Belgium, get one year of Dutch language classes before entering regular secondary schools. Some are illiterate, others were on the verge of university, and all carry ‘a backpack full of problems’.
To be a teacher in this school, you need infinite patience, massive improvisation skills and empathy.
